The aim is therefore to highlight the basis of the joy of golf: having a good time with more and more friends.

No advertising, but competitions, forums and invitations to expand your circle of acquaintances, meetings on set, a calendar to organize yourself quickly…

Everything the golfer wanted from their passion and could not achieve due to lack of tools until came along!

On the initiative of this request Gaetan Mauguinrecently accompanied by 2 partners who did not hesitate to enter St. Petersburg in Florida and take part in the great annual show of the in January Orlando PGA.

You’ve just come from the big commercial show that brings together all golfers in Orlando every year. You decided to take a stand there and face the market directly if your product is not yet fully available to the public. How are you feeling and to what extent are you coming back with guarantees and hopes?

We return full of hope and above all full of guarantees. On the occasion of this show, we partially opened the platform to the public, which allowed us to test the feelings of golf directors and the American press. The reception and feedback has been very enthusiastic, both from the 200 golf course owners we met who had access to, and from representatives of the American press. We have since also been contacted to be interviewed in a television documentary “Advancing the game of golf through innovation and technology” : The report will be broadcast on American channels in the second half of 2022)

We already signed our first contract in the USA last week and are in talks for ten more!

In France, the reception from the golf industry directors and players we met is just as good.
We already have 3 partners (in preparation), several requests to participate in golf events and the schedule for the next few weeks in France is very busy.

Fun for golfers, revenue for golf courses

How can be characterized in a few words? What expectations do you want to meet?

In summary, is a private digital platform that aims to make golf “fun”, search for golf, participate in competitions and small tournaments between members wherever there are golf facilities.

To do this, we send Premium members a package with various items upon registration, some of which are intended to be used in certain unique functions of, such as a snack in the clubhouse or one of its preserved objects) or in small tournaments according to the concept of the Ryder and Solheim Cup…

Our members can also organize and/or search for golf matches anywhere in France and the USA, manage their golf calendar… Wedoo Golf allows you to search for other members using criteria other than the index; it allows you to meet new people. also provides its premium members with all modern means of communication (chat, group formation, publication of contributions, etc.) as well as a very nice sponsorship program!

Isn’t this new tool part of the same philosophy as Top Golf, which is a hit everywhere and whose leitmotif is fun, friendly and sporting challenges and new encounters?

Absolutely, we’re in the same mood as Top Golf, who we met at the PGA Show. And what is very much appreciated by young and old: giving the opportunity to have fun beyond the technical performance (good or not so good ;-).
The idea is to support the golf infrastructure with properties that allow you to have fun close to what you can have with a top golf course.

We are convinced that a good game of golf is not only based on our individual performance or our level of play, but also on its progression (tuned and adapted rhythm), the “alchemy” of the playing partners (kindness, good understanding…), and above all fun …

Why didn’t exist until today?

In France, we feel that some features have been around for a long time, but not in this complete and unified form. They have been distributed to various existing platforms. I’m thinking of the various Facebook groups, especially WhatsApp groups, and there weren’t really any others (challenges, for example).
As for the North American market, we are in competition with 2 other startups… It means the demand is real.

We just came up with the idea of ​​bringing everything together in one place, in the player’s palm. And to continuously enrich the platform with feedback from our members.

How much does cost interested golfers? to unite? to partners? And how does your business plan to make money since you don’t want to free up space for advertising?

Our business model is based on the “fremium” model, that is, a first level of free access and the possibility of having more features and obtaining packages through a subscription at an annual price lower than the cost of a green fee. This subscription system allows us, unlike our American competitors, not to use the data for advertising purposes.

We have 4 subscription levels: Free, Silver, Gold and soon Diamond. The first level (free) allows you to discover and try certain functions for 30 days. You don’t need to upgrade to a premium tier to use basic features.

The premium levels increase in the functionalities and the content of the packages sent (from the cap to the soft shell, past the belt…).
The starting price is 48 euros per year for the Silver level (i.e. 4 euros per month).

Since opened to the public on January 23, Gold subscriptions (without a package) have been offered for every registration. On March 5th we are transitioning to the full freemium model.

For golf courses, the model varies depending on their status (associative or not), their model (private, semi-private, public), and the level of involvement with their members. In general, the cost of the golf courses is zero, apart from some green fees that we bring into play at the competitions. So we contact them one by one.

We also have a model for PROs who can, for example, include a premium subscription in their courses.

Three partners from digital, international business relationships and the development of golf shops

You are three partners at the start of this start-up: What is your respective background?

Personally, I come from the digital world, where for 25 years I held various positions and responsibilities as a senior manager in a large consulting company or most recently even within Microsoft in positions as a digital advisor, product marketing manager or as a sales specialist.

So Michel joined the team last year. For the past 10 years he has been split between the US and France in the import/export world. Michel manages purchasing as well as support for the development of the North American market.

The experience of the first two partners was reinforced earlier this year by the entry of Sébastien with his (professional) background in the development and establishment of golf shop chains. Sébastien is responsible for the European market (including the UK)

We recruited our North American director (John) at the Orlando show. John is responsible for this market and his international experience (he has lived in France and Japan) is a real asset in our structure.

Our strength is that everyone comes from different backgrounds and cultures. I wanted to find collaborators who are also sources of different ideas and able to propose new points of view while taking into account the existing situation in the golf industry.

A busy schedule

Have you decided on a joint launch in France and the USA? What is your schedule and next steps?

Absolutely, we launch both countries at the same time. We asked ourselves the question “which first and which countries/territories in which order” and the only obvious answer was France and the United States in parallel.

The reason is simple: the North American market is more competitive and forces us to be more innovative, agile and reactive. If we don’t establish ourselves quickly in the US, our competitors will do it for us… And it will then be difficult to gain market share. This is beneficial for France and Europe as it forces us to enrich the platform faster to keep our edge.

The agenda is very busy with the two simultaneous launches, the marketing campaigns … and on a technical level we will open the remaining 10% of the platform in the next 2 weeks (essentially the functions related to the tournaments) and with that we will be able to offer the “Diamond” subscriptions!

In perspective, we are preparing for the opening at the end of the year by Great Britain, then Germany and the “Nordics”, then Spain (although many players like to have a few winter stays in the Iberian Peninsula) .

In short, our agenda is very busy!
